On June 2nd, 2014 it was announced that LVL1 won a Shapeoko2 CNC machine kit in the Inventables 50 States 3D Carving Machine Giveaway contest.
The Shapeoko is a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine which in its default configuration uses a light-duty rotary tool as the spindle. It is a 3-axis machine; able to move the mounted tool up/down, left/right, and forward/backward under computer control with some measure of repeatable precision.
This Friday night (8/22/14) we are going to start building this machine. Drop by at 8 pm if you are interested in helping. It should be fun and a great opportunity to learn a little about CNC hardware.
Meanwhile, here is the LVL1 wiki page for you to read: wiki.lvl1.org/Shapeoko_CNC_build
Hope to see you there!

Please join us this Thursday in the "Barrel Room" of The Pointe at 7pm for a presentation by Ben Nuttall of the Raspberry Pi Foundation.
Last years visit to the LVL1 hackerspace was a huge success and resulted in an attendance of nearly 100 people and brought out many of the local community's Raspberry Pi based projects for display and discussion. This year we aim to top those numbers by partnering with FirstBuild and Velocity Indiana and to that end we've rented an event hall at The Pointe, located at 1205 E. Washington Street, 40206, in the same building as the LVL1 hackerspace, which can accommodate 300 people.
This is an all-ages event for anyone who is interested in the Raspberry Pi platform. Show us your Pi projects or just come learn about what the Pi is and how it can be used to interact with the world around you and educate kids and adults alike.
The Raspberry Pi is a small, cheap computer designed to be used in schools to encourage kids to play and learn with computers by removing the worry of the expense; at $35 it's not a big deal if they end up breaking it. This low price point, combined with some pretty powerful hardware for the cost, has made it a darling of the Maker Movement. The latest iterations are increasingly targeted to the Maker Movement with increased access to digital and analog inputs and outputs.
On January 24th, 5pm through January 26th, 5pm (that's right, 48 hours), LVL1 will act as a site for the Global Game Jam! Mike and Alex are organizing this great event. Think of it as a collaborative Game Development Hackathon! Come together, hone your game dev skills with like-minded folks, and build some great games!
