Free Thanksgiving dinner at your favorite place to make stuff!

Don't have a place to celebrate? Join us!

Know someone who needs a place to get a meal? Send the our way!

Want to avoid your racist uncle? Tell your family you're volunteering at a charity dinner! We're a 501c3 after all. Help clean up and keep your conscious clear.

While this is aimed at folks who don’t have a place to go all are welcome! Please RSVP and let us know if you are bringing a dish so our organizers can plan for everyone.

Not sure if you should join us? Nervous because it'd be your first time to the space? Don't let that stop you; all are welcome at our free Thanksgiving Dinner. Friendly nerds, cool tools, and plenty of fun!

First time visitors will need to sign a waiver for themselves and any minors they bring with them. Minors will need to be actively supervised (we have power tools after all).

We are providing all the basics and folks are welcome to bring side dishes, desserts, and drinks.

You can sign up on our Facebook event page here.

I'd Hack That For a Dollar

collection

Once again LVL1 will host a Dollar Store hackathon honoring MacGyver.  The rules are simple.  Several members will go to dollar stores to collect supplies.  These supplies will be chosen at random and independent of one another.  The high quality offerings will then be piled on a table.  Individuals and teams will then hack together what they want in the hopes of showing off their skills or preventing Armageddon in the nick of time.  No entrance fee.  Various food parts will be available for assembly.  And the Coca Cola will flow.

Last time the event was held, this was the result : 1st Dollar Store MacGyver Hackathon

Irregular movie night will be running in parallel.  There will likely be episodes of MacGyver and MacGruber playing.

So now is your chance to mullet your way into a LVL1 hackathon.  Hackathon begins at 7:00 pm and ends about midnight.

Once again LVL1 is hosting a free Thanksgiving Dinner at our space for anyone who wishes to attend.  It will be at our space on the 26th and will start around 2 with a plan for dinner around 3 or 4 and general activities and food the entire time (plenty of snacking and desserts before and after).

We recognize that there are those in our community that may not have family nearby, may not have the economic or other means to celebrate, or who may feel like spending their time with fellow nerds in their "adopted" family here at LVL1.

We'd like to encourage you to reach out to *anyone* you know who might like the opportunity to attend; they don't have to have ever been to LVL1 before or anything (perhaps students who can't go home or older folks who can't see family for some reason).  The more the merrier; you don't need a reason or excuse -- just show up!
Want to avoid that Racist Uncle or Awkward Aunt?  We're a registered 501c3; tell your family you're selflessly volunteering at a charity dinner and you've got a great reason to skip the unpleasantness (just be sure to do a couple of the dishes or sweep up or something).
If you'd like to help out please join the discussion on our mailing list.
Donations are accepted but we're aiming more for side-dishes and desserts more than cash.  Let us know if you need a tax-reciept.

lan2

It's time again for the third to fifth-ish somewhat (bi?)annual LVL1 LAN party! Come to LVL1 noon Saturday the 22nd to hang out and frag your fellow hackers in these free but awesome games. Team Fortress 2 has been the standby game at these events but this time I would like to introduce a few more games that have proven themselves to be a blast at small LANs and are easy to learn:

Xonotic - Beautiful graphics, unique weapons and lots of gameplay options
Warsow - Cell shaded arena shooter with a fun movement system that can make Quake III feel slow
Urban Terror - More realistic shooter (in case people get tired of rocket launchers)
TeeWorlds - quirky little 2D shooter
Armagetron Advanced - quick and addicting 3D multiplayer lightcycle game (like from TRON)

If you don't download and update Team Fortress 2 beforehand you're going to have a bad time. The other games are optional since I will have copies available locally but I do encourage people to go ahead and install the latest versions ahead of time so you can tweak your controls and graphics settings.

Bring cash for pizzas and drinks.

The Monoprice order of cables for the classroom might be showing up Thursday or Friday, if anyone is interested in putting ends on cables before the event please keep an eye on the mailing list. If they don't show up in time I'll just randomly distribute a few extra switches around the space.
