ALL MEMBERS PLEASE READ – Dues Increasing In January

Members of LVL1 Hackerspace,

BEGINNING WITH YOUR JANUARY PAYMENT, MEMBERSHIP DUES WILL BE $65 PER MONTH.

As you all know, the economy has made keeping up with bills tough for everyone. LVL1 is no different. Over the recent months, we on the board of directors have had a lot of difficult conversations and made a lot of difficult decisions. One of those decisions was related to the dues every member pays to support and enjoy the space. The current dues rate of $50 we have maintained since the founding of the space fifteen years ago has proven unrealistic to maintain current operations. We have labored over this decision and unfortunately dues have to be raised.

We discussed multiple ways to avoid this, and the main way discussed was increasing membership. If we are able to increase membership, the current dues rate would be more effectively workable, but that depends on everyone helping to drive membership. The increased rate agreed upon by the board has been set at $65. Until January, your payment will be debited at the current rate of $50. If this may cause an undue hardship to you and you would like to discuss this with the board, please feel free to reach out to the board via email at directors@lvl1.org.

This unfortunately only solves the problem in the short term. Rent will increase yearly and we may have to do this again in the future. For now to cover our current expenses, this is the only realistic option. We want your input on how to approach this going forward. Conversations are what keep LVL1 open as a community. You can make your voice heard by attending open meetings, public directors meetings, or speaking to a member of the board at any time. We love all of our members and appreciate each and every one of you. We are willing to discuss options with you to maintain your membership. Our duty is to the community and we want to make this space viable and safe for everyone.
