Sketchup Title

John Pagya of Verdant Design is back on May 27th, teaching another Sketchup Workshop!  John'll be reviewing the basics, and going into more detail about how you can actually design parts for the 3D printer!  If you're interested in 3D design, art, or printing, you should stop by on Tuesday, May 27th! Sketchup is a completely free tool, and John is a downright Sketchup professional.  This tool allows you to create 3D models, which you can then take and print on one of the two LVL1 3D printers.

Like many of us, John Pagyga was immediately taken by the idea of 3D printing.  As a landscape architect, he has already adapted sketchup into his daily routine, so he was able to translate those skills into near-immediate 3D printing prowess.  He'd like to share these skills with others in the LVL1 community.  On May 27th, from 6 to 8pm (immediately preceding one of our regular Tuesday meetings), he'll be teaching a workshop about the ins and outs of Sketchup in a 3D printing context.  Come on down, and learn you a 3D design tool!

You can sign up now using Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/lvl1-sketchup-workshop-527-tickets-11565762507

Seating is limited to 15, so sign up now and sign up often!  This is a pay-what-you-want workshop, with all proceeds going to LVL1.  Eventbrite imposes a $0.99 minimum, but anything above that goes!

If you've got any questions, email workshops@lvl1.org, or pop over to our mailing list!

The rumors are true! LVL1 is moving! This spring, we'll be moving from our current home (814 E. Broadway), to a new building, The Pointe in Butchertown.  We'll be moving into the basement space formerly occupied by The Alley Theater. Everyone is very excited to see what the new space will become! Right off the bat, the new space features:

  •  9000 sq. ft. of flat, level concrete floor
  • 13' ceilings
  • Plenty of electricity
  • 3 Phase Power
  • Heat throughout
  • Windows!
  • A concrete "bunker" area, suitable for indoor welding and metalworking
  • A floor which does not flood
  • A ceiling which does not leak

Along with plenty of other perks, including being co-located with plenty of other creative Louisvillians!

We're currently working to develop a moving plan, as well as kick off a crowdfunding campaign to help us defray some moving expenses. If you'd like to help us move, drop us a line! We'll be posting updates to this blog, our twitter account, and our public mailing list throughout the process.  Expect a complete move-out plan sometime in the next two weeks.

On May 31st, Sonny Mounicou will be returning to LVL1 to teach another Build Your Own 3D printer workshop! You might remember Sonny from a similar workshop last March, in which 10 people came together, and build 10 Prusa i2 printers in just 2 days. From seasoned makers, to newbees, to father-son teams, everyone walked out with a working 3D printer. It was a really great event, and we're happy to bring it back to LVL1, with even more expanded options! Seating is limited, however, and Sonny needs deposits early, so sign up ASAP!

Sonny has lead 42 builders across 4 build events to create their 3d printers.  In a weekend worth of time, you could have a 3d printer as well!  Please see the details below.

 Purpose
The goal is to start with a set of parts that we provide and end the weekend with a working printer.  This normally takes people months to get worked out.  At the event, we'll provide you with the guidance to get it built, the familiarity  to use your printer going forward, and experts to help troubleshoot any issues that arise.
Timing

We are presently looking at the weekend of May 31st for the build.  This date is only moveable by a unanimous vote of all attendees!
Logistics
In order to make this viable, we’ll need at least 12 - 15 (or assembled) printers being build.  In addition, to make the upgrade option viable we will need 5 participants.  The slots filled up quickly last time.  I would urge you to reserve your seat ASAP.
Pricing
We will be building an aluminum frame I3 for this build event.  There will be three different options to choose from:
Conversion: $300
If you have been part of one of my previous build events, I will offer an upgrade option to convert your I2 to an I3.  The instructions I provide will make the assumption that you have kept your I2 as built.  If you have customized it, you can still participate but will need to improvise.  You will need to print your own plastic parts.
New I3 Printer: $950
This will be an aluminum frame I3 with Rambo electronics, precision bearings and shafts, an electronics enclosure, and a heated build platform.  I am working to include an all metal hot end in this price so that you can print any plastic material.  I am also looking to include an LCD control.  I will confirm that as we get closer to the event.
Assembled I3 Printer:$1450
For this build I’m going to offer an special option for those who don’t want to do it themselves.  I’ll assemble, calibrate, and bring the I3 with me to the event.  It will be identical to the new I3 above, but ready to go.
Payment

I will be offering a payment schedule to help make this more achievable for participants.  Please send your deposits via paypal to “sonny@mounicou.com”.
