What: Vinyl Cutter 101 Class
When: Saturday, 11 May, 12:00 - 2:00pm
Cost: $6.00 ($4.96 + $1.04 processing fees)

Vinyl cutters are used to create a variety of signs and stickers such as the types placed on walls, windows, vehicles, computers, notebooks, etc. Learn the basics of placing an image and text in a custom design. We will be using Inkscape for the design elements. If you have a laptop computer we recommend you install this free program and bring it with you to the class. There are also several computers with it installed at LVL1 and you are welcome to use one of those. For the class you will receive a plastic license plate blank (various colors) and white or black vinyl. You will learn how to design, cut, weed, and transfer the vinyl.

You may, of course, choose to place your design on a material other than a license plate. The procedure is the same.

This class is on the day before Mother's Day. This is your chance to make her that last-minute gift. Or bring her along and make a project together!

What: Magic Mirror Workshop
When: Sunday, 14 April, 10:00am - 2:00pm
Cost: $35.00 (+$1.49 processing fee)

Magic Mirrors (sometimes called smart mirrors) place a video screen behind a semi-transparent mirror so that information shows through the mirror as a sort of ghostly image as you look at it. Google it on Bing -- they're way cooler than I just made them sound.

When we hosted our first Magic Mirror workshop a couple years ago it proved to be one of our most popular events. So we're doing another one! (Also, we have some old monitors sitting around the space that we want to clear out before The Purge! and this is a great way to put them to use.) You'll need to provide your own Raspberry Pi 3, but we'll provide a screen, cable, and mirror material. Follow the Eventbrite link below for a complete list of needed and provided materials.

Tickets are $36.49 ($35.00 + $1.49 processing fee) through Eventbrite. [Click here for details or to purchase.]

Look at all this sh--stuff! A couple times a year we need to throw out some old stuff (so we can bring in new old stuff). We rent a dumpster and spend a couple hours filling it up.

We plan to concentrate primarily on the member storage areas. Get your projects and materials off the floor and out of the aisles. If you have materials/projects you are not currently working on, please take them home. The metal storage and large wood storage areas are also in need of straightening up. Maybe build a rack to help hold large boards?

Filling the dumpster usually takes about two hours and then we eat pizza.

There's always work to be done on our Wiki -- and anyone in our LVL1 community is welcome to lend a hand! If you've never edited a wiki before training will be provided. (It's easier than you might think.) Our plan for this day is to document some procedures for projects. You might even learn a new skill, make a new project, and document it as you go!

You do not need to be a member of LVL1 to attend these events. This is a great way to get to know us better and contribute to the community! Anyone entering LVL1 for the first time must sign a waiver of liability. (There's a kiosk right inside the door.)
